Born in Normanby and currently living in Eston, my roots to the local area have grounded my drawings and paintings for many years. Eston and Normanby - the focus for a recent twelve watercolour collection – and rural viewpoints including Whitby and Staithes with their narrow streets, pan-tile rooftops and ever-changing atmosphere, are many of the places I have returned to over the years and which continue to enchant me.
I have a deep love of painting, whether in oils, watercolour, gouache or acrylic. Each medium has its own unique flexibility, richness of colour and coverage, allowing me to create artwork as I intend, and nothing makes me more proud than the beauty of the unique subject matter available in this country to paint. Every drop of paint and every brushstroke are worth their weight in gold, and I am always looking forward to the next subject, the next painting and the next challenge. As a painter, I graduated from Bretton Hall College of Higher Education in 1988 with a B.Ed (Honours) degree in Visual Arts, and after a lengthy career in teaching.
I am proud to say I now work for the NHS. I am a published writer of teenage and non-fiction work and am a lapsed brass musician (with aspirations to take it up again one day - we shall have to see!).
